RCSEd Examination Centres

We have highlighted our main examination centres on this page. MRCS and MFDS written examinations are held in many other locations across the world. The centres below are where the College regularly holds the OSCE Part B examinations, as well as joint and intercollegiate examinations.

Hong Kong

RCSEd has had a long and fruitful partnership with the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong since its inception. At the present time, there are Joint Specialty Fellowship Exams in Cardiothoracic, General Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic surgery, Otorhinolaryngology and Paediatric Surgery. The RCSEd Dental Faculty is also very active in Hong Kong, holding examinations in Paediatric, Special Care Dentistry, MOMS and Tri-Collegiate Membership. Upon successful completion of the Hong Kong Intercollegiate Board of Surgical Colleges Membership (MHKICBSC) Examination (Part 3), together with the required experience, candidates are then eligible to apply for dual membership of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Hong Kong is a centre for access to China and other areas

Singapore is a major centre for RCSEd with Joint Specialty Fellowship examination, allowing candidates to become Fellows of both RCSEd and the College of Surgeons of Singapore. The Singapore centres also offers popular Dental exams including Dental Specialties. Singapore is a global commercial, financial and transportation hub. It is a highly commercialised City State, easily accessible from China, south-east Asia, the Antipodes and India.

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

RCSEd holds both dental and surgical examinations in Kuala Lumpur regularly throughout the year. Kuala Lumpur is a main centre for the College in south East Asia. It is easily accessible from the Middle East and south East Asia and has flights to and from European destinations regularly. Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and is one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in South East Asia. The College serves a fast growing population of Malaysian trainee surgeons and dentists in the city and wider country.

Kuching (Malaysia)

Due to increased demand from trainee surgeons in Malaysia, RCSEd has extended its activity to Kuching, in Sarawak. Kuchingis the capital of the state of Sarawak and its most populous city. Known for its diverse culture and cuisine, Kuching is an industrial centre as well as boasting a mixture of modern and colonial architecture.

Delhi (India)

RCSEd examines once per year in Delhi. Delhi is easily accessible from all parts of Europe and the Middle East. It is a well-run and popular diet of examinations ably assisted by our International Surgical Advisor in Delhi, Professor Pawanindra Lal. Delhi is a massive multi-cultural hub serviced by a large and modern airport, easily accessed by transport links. It is an exciting and vibrant city for working, living and visiting, with many attractions. Candidates should book well in advance as this diet frequently fills up.

Hyderabad (India)

The intercollegiate MRCS part 2 examination is held in Hyderabad once every two years. It has previously been run alongside examiner training and a scientific meeting for college members and fellows. Hyderabad is the capital of the Indian state of Telangana and the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is known for production of Bollywood movies, and for the mining of pearls and diamonds. It is also known for bio-medical science, and as the winter home of the President of India. The RCSEd has an International Surgical Adviser based in Hyderabad, who offers support and advice to those in the local area looking to sit examination.

Chennai (India)

Chennai is a city on the Coromandel coast off the bay of Bengal. It is known as the Detroit of India for its large automotive industry. It has been named as one of Nahendra Modi’s ‘smart cities’ a project deigned to develop sustainable Indian cities for the future. There are two RCSEd International Surgical Advisers based in Chennai and the College also runs regular examiner training there.

Kolkata (India)

Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is a large city in the east of India. It is known as the cultural capital of India due to its wealth of educational institutions and museums, as well as being home to the National Library of India. Kolkata is the third largest metropolitan area of India and faces many challenges such as pollution, poverty and congestion. RCSEd has an International Surgical Adviser based in the city and the MCRS examination is held there every two years.

Khartoum (Sudan)

Khartoum is a bustling city of over 5m people. It has recently undergone development following the comprehensive peace agreement. It now benefits from a growing oil industry and other manufacturing which is taking place. RCSEd has a partnership with the University of Khartoum, supporting the growing numbers of newly qualified surgeons in the country. We have an International Surgical Adviser based in the city and perform the MRCS Part B examination there annually. We have recently begun holding diploma ceremonies in Khartoum, with the city forming a base for our work in Africa.

Yangon (Myanmar)

Yangon is the main industrial centre of Myanmar, though Naypyidaw is the official capital. Famed for its elaborate pagodas and colonial buildings, Yangon is a city that is beginning to attract more tourists and investment as Myanmar opens up to international trade. The RCSEd has excellent relationships with surgeons in Myanmar, and we carry out examinations there annually. Miss Tin Tin Mar, a general surgeon is the International Surgical Adviser here and she has recently supported MRCS prep courses as well as the Part B exam.

Colombo (Sri Lanka)

Colombo is the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. It is the financial centre of the country and a popular tourist centre. The legislative centre, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is adjacent to Colombo but is within its urban area. Colombo is a vibrant city and known for its mixture of modernity and colonial buildings. RCSEd has a new International Surgical Adviser based in the country and there is a growing interest in RCSEd examinations and Fellowship.

Muscat (Oman)

Muscat is the capital of Oman and the seat of government and of the Governorate of Muscat. It is a relatively small port city but with a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society. It is known for its low lying white buildings and harbour, dominated by trade. RCSEd will begin examining in Oman in 2016. The country is served by and International Surgical adviser and is a key partner for RCSEd.
