Next Steps

I've passed - what next?

Candidates who have successfully passed their Membership examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh will be sent documentation informing them of the next steps to take to become a Member of the College. Theywill need to return election papers and pay their election fee which allows their name to go forward in the historical 'ballot' for election to the College at the next Council meeting.

Once the Council approves them as a new Member of the College, they will be invited to attend a Diploma Ceremony. Diploma Ceremonies are one of the most popular events in the RCSEd calendar. New Fellows and Members travel from all over the world to attend and have their Diploma presented to them by the RCSEd President. Each ceremony is usually followed by a drinks reception or dinner.

In addition to holding cermonies in Edinburgh, RCSEd holds ceremonies in Hong Kong, Singapore, Khartoum and Yangon. More information on international ceremonies is available by contacting for more information.
