RCSEd Members and Fellows are eligible for free full-text access to thousands of electronic journals, books and databases through The Knowledge Network. Fellows and Members of the College can email the Library and will be sent a brief pdf guide to registration for an Athens username and password for these resources.
Medical historians, researchers, students of the history of medicine and interested members of the public are also welcome to contact the library to develop their understanding of the history of medicine and surgery.
The Museum of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh houses one of the largest and most historic collections of surgical pathology material in the United Kingdom. Developed as a teaching museum for students of medicine it has been open to the general public since 1832, making it Scotland's oldest museum. There is a large volume of electronic resources available for our Fellows, Members and Affiliates. Following a recent national Lottery funded renovation project, the museum has reopened to positive critical acclaim and has received many prestigious awards. It runs a full public education programme as well as being readily accessible to Members and Fellows who visit the College.
