The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is pleased to announce that it will be opening an international office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the New Year.
With the College's international activity growing year by year, this new international base marks a milestone in the College's 513 year history. The new RCSEd international office was officially opened on Wednesday 17 January 2018 at a prestigious ceremony attended by His Royal Highness Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Munawir of Malaysia, RCSEd President Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones, College Office Bearers, RCSEd Malaysian Fellows and Members, and colleagues from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the College of Surgeons Academy of medicine of Malaysia (CSAMM).
The new international office is located at the Advanced Surgical Skills Centre of UKM and will act as a hub for the College's education, training, and assessment programmes, along with its charitable activities in the ASEAN region.
Commenting on this historic occasion, RCSEd President Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones said:
"The College has a long-established relationship with Malaysia, having run diets of both the MRCS surgical examination and the MFDS dental examination there for a number of years, in addition to a variety of educational courses to support our surgical and dental colleagues in the ASEAN region.
"We are immensely proud to have approximately 600 RCSEd Malaysian Fellows and Members as part of our College today, and it brings me great pleasure to be able to enhance the support we can offer our growing international membership in Malaysia and beyond.
"I would like to express my personal gratitude to Professor Hanafiah Harunarashid, President of the College of Surgeons of Malaysia, Professor Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali, Vice Chancellor of UKM and Professor Dato Kandasami, Master of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, for their support and advice over this initiative."
